Questions About Enrollment and Health Requirements

1. How is your school different from other private Jewish Schools?

This is one of the most important frequently asked questions.  BDY School focuses on each individual student.  Each student is treated like our only child and is allowed to use her unique talents and gifts to help her learn and succeed.

2. What is the deadline to apply for enrollment?

Around August 20th, every year.

3. What is the minimum age to enroll in Pre-K?

2 1/2 by September.

4. What immunizations are required for enrollment?

BDY School follows all immunization guidelines outlined by the State of New York Department of Health.  For more information and a current list of required immunizations, please CLICK HERE.

5. What is the school's Covid policy?

BDY School follows all current Covid recommendations for prevention, testing, and quarantine issued by the State of New York Department of Health.  Our goal is to provide a safe environment for our students and staff at all times.

Questions About Student Life

1. What is the student dress code?

We require all students wear a uniform every day.
Uniforms for Students through 8th Grade:

2. Where can uniforms be purchased?

Uniform Headquarters in Spring Valley carries all our uniform items.  They know all the BDY School approved uniform items and can quickly help you find them.  Other uniform stores also carry our items, but they may not know our approved items.

3. Is there a transportation program available?

Yes.  BDY School will help set up round trip transportation between a student’s home and the school is available each school day.  For those students who qualify, the county will provide bus service.  or all other students, we will provide service through one of our private school buses. 

4. What is the typical class size?

Class sizes vary, but we like to keep them small, especially in elementary grades.  That way teachers can focus more attention on each individual student.  Class sizes typically run around 15 students.  As students get older, class sizes get a little bigger.  For high school classes, they can run anywhere between 15 and 28 students.  Once a class reaches 28 students, we split it.

5. Can my daughter bring her own lunch?

She can, if she has food allergies or if she is not approved for our child nutritional program.

6. Is there a playground on campus?

We offer a nice playground furnished with bicycles, monkey bars, swings and other equipment.  There is also a basketball court and other outdoor activities areas we use, weather permitting.

7. Can children celebrate their birthday in school?

Yes.  Students can bring cupcakes to share with all students in the class.

8. Is there a social media policy?

Yes.  We do not allow students to use any social media platform during school hours.  Additionally, each year we conduct a special program for high school students about the dangers of bullying on social media.

9. Is there a remedial resource program, if needed?

Yes.  We offer a robust remedial education program available to any students who needs it. It is designed to help students get back on track and more confident with their learning skills.

10. If my child needs additional help, who do we call?

The principal of her department is always available to provide helpful resources for every situation.  Rabbi Moskowitz is also available and willing to help any student or parent.

Questions About Faculty and Parent Participation

1. What is the level of parent participation?

We encourage all parents to send notes to teachers at least every week.  Additionally, our staff calls parents at least once per month to discuss their daughters progress and address any questions or concerns.

2. Are parent/teacher conferences available?

Yes.  Parent/teacher conferences can be scheduled anytime, and we require them at least once every six months.

3. Are teachers vetted before they are hired by BDY School?

Every prospective teacher and staff member is fully vetted by background checks and evaluations.

4. Do teachers get continued educational training?

We provide continued educational training to all teachers prior to the start of the new school year.

5. What is the student's average performance on standardized tests?

We administer standardized tests in compliance with all State of New York Department of Education requirements.  We also administer additional language tests in our Judaic Studies program.   Our students perform very well on all tests and above average compared to students across the state of New York.

6. What is Rabbi Moskowitz's participation in the school?

This is one of our most frequently asked questions.  We are proud to say Rabbi Moskowitz is involved in every aspect of the school.  He knows each student by name.  He is loved and respected by students, faculty, and parents alike.

Questions About Special Religious Programs

1. Do you have a special program for Bat Mitzvah?

Yes.  All sixth-grade girls participate in our annual Bat Mitzvah performance.

2. Do you have a special program for Siddur?

Yes.  All kindergarten students have a special performance where they receive their new Siddur.

3. Do you have a special program for Davening?

Every year our third-grade students have a special performance.

4. Do you have a special program for Churmash?

Yes.  Every year for all students in all grades, kindergarten through 12th grade.
